Its birthplace is redolent with rural charm—that is Isamai
Authentic Isamai is shipped only from the Isa region.
A “hometown shochu” crafted by those who love the Isa region’s natural bounty and who are fastidious about the yeast, the flavor, and the distilling process. The local variety of rice is called Isa-mai, which is the origin of the product’s name: Isamai.
The Kagoshima Prefectural Institute of Industrial Technology and Okuchi Shuzo worked together to successfully extract a yeast that tempers the distinctive olfactory profile of potato shochu, while also collaborating to develop a distilling method using this yeast.
Isamai leverages this new yeast to preserve the flavor of potato shochu without the bitterness or the shochu mash aroma. The result is a light taste that is popular with young drinkers and female drinkers.
